Six lessons on giving every new member the same orientation, in the same order, whether the chief runs the session or the newest captain does.
Six lessons on one orientation that reads the same no matter who is standing at the front of the room.
Orientation in a volunteer hall usually depends on who is free that Tuesday. One new member gets the full walk through, the next gets twenty minutes and a binder, and neither of them can tell you afterwards what they were told.
You'll take the orientation material you already have, cut it into sections a new member can work through on a phone, and add a short quiz to each one so progress is tracked rather than assumed. You end with an orientation you hand over instead of perform.
Training officers: the same walk through, given for the fourth time this year.
Captains: the new member you were handed on a practice night.
Department secretaries: the orientation paperwork nobody can find the current version of.
